What is an eSIM?

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a virtual sim that’s digitally embedded in your phone and stores the data needed for your phone to connect to the O2 network. It’s similar to a traditional plastic SIM, but removes the need to put a physical sim into your phone.

You can have multiple eSIMs on one handset, get set up just by scanning a QR code with your camera. We can send you the eSIM pack to get started or why wait for the post we can just send you a picture of the QR Code to get instantly set up.

You will need to have a compatible handset to be able to use an eSIM, the list is below. eSIM gives you all the same services as you would on a physical SIM such as 5G and Wi-Fi calling.

Compatible handsets with eSIM:

  • iPhone XS Max, XS, XR, 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, SE 2020, 12, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, 13, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max
  • Samsung Galaxy S20 4G, S20 5G, S20 5G Plus, S20 Ultra 5G and Z Flip
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2 and Watch3
  • Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL
  • Microsoft Surface Pro X

Have two or more O2 numbers on your handset for different uses, SMS authentication, privacy or personal and work (clear pocket space).

NSN can offer a physical SIM on EE or Vodafone alongside an O2 eSIM, giving you access to both networks’ tariff benefits while giving you an even more resilient connection.

An eSIM can also leave you space for a local SIM card if you are abroad, to save on roaming costs.
